IMG_0576  I have been making my final college project. It is going to be an AWG (arbitrary function generator) in a FPGA. Part of it is a Picoblaze soft-core processor with some control electronics around it. There are a few good picoblaze tutorials around, also the documentation that comes with the processor i pretty good. I am just going to try to write up a few little gotchas that took relatively a lot of time, but have more or less nothing to do with vhdl and digital design. Read More

Intel X25-M 80Gb in a Lenovo T61p on Debian linux or My Amazing Adventures in SSD Land

Just recived my new hard disk Fiju, this was certainly a learning experience. I think I learnt more in these few days about file systems and partitions than in all my years using computers, so that is a good thing :-)

I upgraded my laptop with a new hard disk, and this is where the fun started. I bought an Intel X25-M, a 80Gb second generation model. I had to do a few things: I had to prepare the SSD, transfer the existing system from platter hard drive to the new SSD and the second thing was optimizing the system for the Solid state disk.

IMG_0228  Fingerprint readers are really cool.

They are not safe, but they are cool :-)

Usually fingerprint readers do not work out of the box, but when they do you can scan your fingerprint anywhere you need to enter your password. CLI, GUI, you name it… Read More

Modding APC CS 350 USB

IMG_9530A friend of mine gave me an UPS.
It was fully functioning, all I had to do was to get a new battery, but other than that it was working great. I used it to power a 3 TB RAID 5 Freenas based network attached storage (NAS) I built from my old computer.
Everything was good, but I didn’t have a cable to connect it to the computer and Freenas had support for my UPS so I had to do something :-)

I recently bought myself a data plan. 125Mb for 5$. The first one that was acceptable for me.

So I said what would it take to tether it to my computer. Strangely enough it was pretty straight forward, but not without its gotchas.

What we want to do is connect the mobile phone to the computer, and then configure the dialer to connect to our mobile network. Read More

Rigol DS1052E to DS1102E as easy as one two three

Rigol DS1052I bought my oscilloscope a couple months ago. It was a really exhilarating thing as it is my first oscilloscope and first DSO I had more than a few minutes in my hands. These oscilloscopes are really good value for money, as this is the company that does the development for Agilent for their lower tier osc’s. Maybe i will write a review later  but there is a pretty good one here, and I recommend the whole video blog series. Another thing came a few weeks ago that was as exhilarating as buying the osc. You can upgrade it to the 100MHz model by changing a few bites :-) Read More

Dzen statusbar

probaI have been using dwm since I migrated to Debian form Ubuntu.

In that past few months I got more or less my whole desktop environment running as I want it. The multimedia keys are working, programs float that need to, programs are automatically started on startup and stuff like that. One of the things I really like how it turned up is the status bar. I wrote a bash script that gets all of the information, and dzen displays it. Read More

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

Hehe, an update finally.

I was really disappointed about the blogger post editor, and it ended in me buying a domain name and hosting space (well I get the hosting space for free, but never mind that :-D ). I hope I will now get more time and motivation to write posts.

That’s it for now, see you soon here !
